How-to: Install Clavos and Hinge Straps

Our decorative clavos and hinge straps are handcrafted from durable aluminum that resists rust and discoloration. Add a distinct and unique element to your Rustic door and create something that is truly your own.

Step 1: Before you Begin

Please note: The door must be pre-finished before applying clavos and hinge strap(s). If you have not pre-finished your door yet, please click here and learn how to stain your Plastpro door:

Step 2: Determine and Mark Placement Locations

Determine placement of clavos and hinge strap(s). Below are a few examples of possible placement options. Next, use masking tape and mark each location.

Step 3: Prepare the Door

Remove one tape at a time. Moisten a clean cloth with water and wipe the surface clean of any dust. Repeat for each placement. Cleaning the surface ensures maximum adherence.

Step 4: Apply the Clavos and/or Hinge Straps

Remove the 3M backing paper and attach the clavos and hinge strap(s) to the door. Press firmly to ensure a good bond. Repeat for each accessory. Once in position, the clavos and hinge strap(s) are intended to be permanent.
